Though loneliness, as a concept, is one I think many assume we understand. I am an outgoing person, very enthusiastic and hard and loyal worker. The intersection of grief and loneliness is complicated. I also recently went through extensive training to become a Friendly Visitor volunteer through the South Carolina Lieutenant Governor's Office on Aging and learned so much current valuable information. I recently moved to Charleston and want to continue this passion and enthusiasm I have. com and living in Chevy Chase, MD I spent the next 6 years taking care of men and women helping them with what their needs were - shopping, doctors, medication management, playing cards, conversation, meal preparation, cleaning, whatever needed to be done I was there to help. We had a great time together and when she died I knew this was what I was meant to do. Preparing meals for her and doing light housekeeping, and best of all, being a companion. I was her caregiver until she passed and helped her with all of her daily living needs including taking her to her doctors appointments and taking copious notes, taking her to the grocery store, bank, etc. My passion started when I began to take care of my grandmother. I facilitate this, because people light up when they do, read, or watch what they love. It's imperative to well-being to enable them to continue engaging with their own hobbies and interests, albeit in a limited capacity. Also, I am an energetic athlete and enjoy helping people stay active with exercise, stretching and yoga. I can research particular cognitive or emotional struggles and provide assistance, as I did for my father.

I will provide the same care as I would for my own parents. They are often not treated with the respect and reverence worth of those with such extensive life experience. I'm passionate about improving the quality of life for the elderly.
